Mary Grace McKernan has traveled the world as a professional photographer, capturing stunning images from the deepest corners of the globe that move beyond mere documentation to reveal careful compositions of African wildlife and landscapes, Australian beaches, the power of belief in Cambodia, the resurgence of New Orleans ten years after Katrina to the world of music. She continues to document live performances of some of the most talented artists to grace the Rock & Roll stages of America. She has flown the skies as a seasoned aerial photographer and has dived deep to shoot the bluegreen serenity of the ocean. In all she’s done, Mary Grace continues to be humbled by the opportunities her photographic expertise has afforded her and continues to embrace and master several genres of the art for which she finds herself most passionate.
In recent years, Mary Grace has established herself as one of the country’s pre-eminent live Rock & Roll photographers and has shot legends and top emerging artists such as Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Heart, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lorde, Pixies and Hoozier, to name a few. Mary Grace’s talents also include writing, and as a music photojournalist she has published many live concert reviews, penning pieces for trendy music industry site, Ellenwood-ep.com, from her dual home bases in Los Angeles and Seattle.
From 2010-14, McKernan shot and exhibited her award-winning African wildlife photography in Los Angeles and New York to help raise money for related causes and organizations. In 2010, Mary Grace’s collection of culinary photos were showcased in McGraw-Hill’s popular higher education textbook Culinary Essentials with over 150 images featured throughout the book. The vibrant photos helped lead the textbook to receive the company’s Award of Excellence, a standout among the 100+ other books published that year.
Recently, Mary Grace has been a contributing photographer for www.TakePart.com. In addition to her work as a photographer, Mary Grace is also an experienced photo editor with expertise in all forms of digital and social media marketing. A skilled and consistent communicator as well as seasoned project manager, her abilities encompass several visual mediums, including both print and digital photography, graphic design and the web.
In her spare time, Mary Grace loves visiting her family, biking, hiking, taking long walks, kick-boxing, watching TV (especially PBS & Masterpiece Theatre), and of course, going to concerts (sometimes without a camera!).
